One Foreign Duty Service Medal for Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. The planchet is bronze and circular in shape. At the center of the obverse is a caduceus crossed with a horizontal foul anchor. Around the edge of the face are the embossed words "U.S. Public Health Service." The reverse is stamped "Foreign Service Award." A small suspension ring attaches the medal to a tapered ribbon. The ribbon is edged by a thin maroon stripe on both sides and a thin maroon stripe in the center. Flanking the center stripe is a grouping of white and blue stripes- white, thick blue, white.

The Public Health Service Foreign Duty Award is presented to Corps members who carry out service in a foreign country for thirty consecutive or ninety nonconsecutive days.
