Diary of Captain Joseph K. Taussig, Commander, U.S. Destroyer Little

[Extract]

Thursday

May 30

Ponta Delgada [Azores]

Yesterday morning stopped by the Conner, picked up Howe and went with him to the Admiral’s house.1 The Admiral said the Little was to be ready to sail Thursday evening, to escort six submarine chasers to Gibraltar. I would rather have another day or two to get on bearing and fired up. . . .

Source Note: D, RNW, Joseph K. Taussig Papers, Mss. Coll. 97, Naval Historical Collection. The diary entry from the following morning notes that the Little’s departure was delayed one day.

Footnote 1: Cmdr. Alfred G. Howe, Commander, U.S.S. Conner, and RAdm. Herbert O. Dunn, Commander, Azores Detachment.
