6340.     Department notices that out of 36 entries Naval Tank ships into United Kingdom 14 were through more dangerous area. As the Navy’s demands are principally centered at Queenstown this appears too large a proportion to the more dangerous route to subject our tank ships. Especially as the Department has available only sufficient tank ships to keep up to your present demand information desired as to whether it is not practicable to route differently Naval tank ships and also whether adequate escort is provided at all times. Definite report relative to escort for U:S.C.S. ROCKEFELLER is requested. 13022. 6340.

Benson.
