Naval History and Heritage Command

Vice Admiral William S. Sims, Commander, United States Naval Forces Operating in European Waters, to Lieutenant Commander Allan S. Farquhar, Commander, U.S.S. Sterett

June 15th.1918.

My dear Farquar,

I have been reading with much interest the reports of your recent fine submarine hunts.1 They are certainly just the right stuff, and they deserve to succeed in giving you a couple of scalps. When the hydrophone appliances reach a further degree of perfection I have no doubt you will bring in some of these Huns.

I felt quite sure that my action in requesting your detail for this duty would be amply justified.

Very sincerely yours,
