1298. Referring my number 1219 as follows quote would also like to learn approximate number and kind of mine carriers unquote. This refers to vessels which will be utilized for shipment of mines to this country. It is desired to utilize if practicable the landing facilities of Kyle for about 60% of total number. Port of Kyle cannot handle vessels more than 260 ft. in length or twenty ft. draught. In order to arrange before hand for the necessary transportation facilities across Scotland by the two routes information is desired by Admiralty as to whether it will be practicable for Navy Department to meet these conditions in selecting ships to bring mines to this country.
