Naval History and Heritage Command

Vice Admiral William S. Sims, Commander, United States Naval Forces Operating in European Waters, to T. Kyle Dawson, Navy League

[Extract]

November 3rd.1918.

Dear Sir,

. . . Concerning the statement which has been published in “THE NAVY”, it is of course very grossly in error.1 The truth of the matter is that somewhat more than half of American troops have been brought over in British ships. During the period from April up to the present when special efforts were made to increase the flow of American troops, British vessels brought over considerably more than a half – probably about 60%.

Very sincerely yours,

Vice-Admiral. U.S.Navy.
