              NAVAL SIGNAL.

From: C. in C.           To: General         Date 11-11-18

          G. F.                            Time 0948

The Armistice has been signed but it is doubtful whether there is sufficient authority in Germany to enforce it. Hostilities are to be suspended with exception that Anti-Submarine defences are to remain in force.1

              (0943)

Footnote 1: Other communications from the British Admiralty also noted that submarines should not be attacked “unless their hostile intention is obvious.” See, Admiralty to Aminfor, 11 November 1918, DNA, RG 45, Entry 517B.
