From:     Force Commander                    <January 18, 1918>

To:       Secretary of the Admiralty.

Subject:  U.S. Vessels assigned as Mine Carriers.

     1.   The Navy Department has assigned the following vessels as mine carriers:-

          MANTA              LAKE HURON

          LAKE ERIE             LAKE FOREST

          LAKE SHORE           LAKE SIDE

          LAKE MOOR           LAKE SUPERIOR

          LAKE WORTH           LAKE MICHIGAN

          LAKE ONTARIO LAKE PLACID

          LAKE <CHAMPLAIN>      LAKE VIEW

          CHOCTAW            KIOWA

          OZAMA              POINT LOMA

          POINT <ARENA>        CARIB

          SOUIX               LAKE WOOD

          LAKE PORT            BRIDGE

     2.   It is understood that all of these vessels are to arrive from United States in the regular westcoast convoys, and are to proceed to the Clyde, thence to their ports for discharge. The vessels would then return to the Clyde and join the next outward-bound convoy for Hampton Roads.

     3.   It is likely that the majority of these vessels will require bunkering before return to Hampton Roads The first vessel should leave United States about January 31.

WM. S. SIMS.
