1879 Admiralty suggests after Gibraltar convoy sails shipping for Mediterranean sea be routed separately until results of first convoy are seen period Very necessary account Italian situation to increase supply into Mediterranean sea period Proposed convoy would defeat this owing to the loss of time occasioned by infrequent sailing. Submarine activity west of Gibraltar is small at present time but may increase at any time period Organization should be carried on so that convoy system can be placed in full effect at any time period suggest fullest consideration be given to method of speeding up sailings period Convoy system at present in operation in Atlantic results in reduction of 25% supplies over vessels sailing singly.-14505.
