2428.     It is not the <in>tention to retain USS Baltimore in <on> this side permanently. This ship is to be used to develop 500 fathom mines. When Department is satisfied with developments it is intention that USS Baltimore with her trained personnel be despatched to the Mediterranean Sea, to handle the Otranto deep mine fields together with the other mine laying ships now in Northern barrage work. Please inform Admiral Strauss and Captain Belknap.1 Signed 09001.  2428
