Executive Order of President Woodrow Wilson

EXECUTIVE ORDER

It is hereby ordered that through the Secretary of the Navy1 there be taken over to the United States the immediate possession and title of and to the German vessel Staatssekretar Solf, now lying at Tutulia, Samoa, and until further directions the Secretary of the Navy is ordered to operate and equip such vessel in the service of the Navy of the United States.2

This order shall take effect from date.

Footnote 2: Upon its transfer to the U.S. Navy, Staatssekretär Solf was renamed Samoa and placed under the command of Lt. William T. Mallison. Samoa spent the war stationed at Tutulia as a member of the Asiatic Fleet.
