2017.28 Dorothy Fairhurst Collection

Collection of 16 images related to the naval service of Charles E. Emery, an engineer during the Civil War. The collection consists of a daguerreotype of USS Richmond, 13 cartes-de-visites of fellow crew (engineers) of USS Richmond, a portrait of Charles E. Emery, and group photo of the officers of USS Richmond. Additional materials in the collection include a hand-drawn, illustrated (by Emery) booklet on the life of a sailor onboard USS Richmond, as well as copies of Emery’s personal correspondence with family during his service aboard USS Richmond (dated 1861-1863).
