Collection photo # 2017.03.01 - Noon concert on the USS Missouri (BB-63)
Donation of 96 b/w images related to USS Phoenix (CL-46) & USS Missouri (BB-63) circa WWII, including many images of navy band/musicians. The images come from the collection of Harry Brewer, US navy band member. The connection between the donor and the images is unknown. Included in the collection is an oversized image of officers and crew of the USS Missouri (BB-63) dated September 9, 1952. The images of the USS Phoenix date from the late 1930s to early 1940s and include general navy life aboard ship. The photos of the USS Missouri include sailors manning the rails when coming into port in Pusan, Korea; firing #1 turret at Wonsan, November 1952; general views of crewmembers aboard ship (sunbathing, eating in the mess hall, cleaning the deck); and receiving visitors (including General Paik, Admiral Robert P. Briscoe, and Admiral Joseph J. "Jocko" Clark). Also included are several good Crossing the Line ceremony photos.
