2017.29 Jeff Fuglestad Collection

Collection of 30 photographs related to the naval service of LCDR Arne Fuglestad during WWII (1940-1946). LCDR Fuglestad was a member of Commodore Graf’s staff as a communications officer aboard USS Montour (APA-101), the flagship of Task Group 20. The subject matter of the images include General Yamashita’s capture in the Philippines, official Philippine surrender by General Tomoyuki Yamashita at Baguio, Luzon, on 3 September 1945, the Japanese surrender aboard USS Missouri, Iwo Jima landings, Allied representatives with MacArthur aboard USS Missouri, and General Wainwright’s meeting with General MacArthur. Also included are images of Commodore Graf and his officers of Task Group 20 as well as Task Group 20’s landings at Wakanoura, Japan, following the atomic bomb. Several images of the remains of the cities of Manila, Philippines and Nagoya, Japan show bombing destruction.
