The seven photos related to the conversion of USS Kearsarge (BB-5) to Crane Ship #1 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard show the ship’s bulges, screws, crane foundations and mechanisms. The images are dated August 31, 1921 to January 3, 1922.

 

48 photographs regarding USS San Francisco (CA-38) consist of the ship’s keel laying and construction at the Mare Island Navy Yard, CA, from September 9, 1931 to January 4, 1933; the launching of the ship at Mare Island Navy Yard, March 8-9, 1933; and fitting out just after completion at Mare Island, April 3, 1933 to April 27, 1934. These images include close-ups and overall views showing the following: 5”/25 A.A. guns, catapults, and smokestacks.
