Description: This sketch by Giovanni Elia shows how his mines functioned. The mines were placed along the bottom of the sea (preventing them from detonating on shallow-draft surface craft), and a triggering mechanism on the bottom would be detonated when the mine was bumped. A cable connected the mine to the detonator.
