The second Billfish (SSN-676) was launched on 1 May 1970 by General Dynamics, Groton and commissioned on 12 March 1971.

She was decommissioned on 1 July 1999 and struck from the Navy list on the same day. Billfish was disposed of by recycling on 21 April 2000.
