Testing the Tektite I habitat
Title: Testing the Tektite I habitat
Description: The Tektite 1 habitat, designed and built by General Electric's Missile and Space Division, undergoes systems testes at Dry Dock #5 in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. The tests are in preparation for the four-man underwater habitat's delivery to Great Lameshur Bay in the Virgin Islands, site of the Tektite 1 program. Due to begin in early 1969, the program will see four aquanaut-scientists live 60 days continuously below the water's surface in a marine sciences and behavioral program sponsored by the navy, Department of the Interior, NASA and General Electric Company.
