Title: ADM Arthur W. Radford Collection
Description: Collection of photos related to the construction, commissioning, and first landings at NAS Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Philippines, 1951-1956. The majority of images are of Admiral Arthur W. Radford’s first landing on the airstrip in 1952. Construction photos consist of construction workers living quarters, building materials, Mobile Construction Battalion units (Seabees) working on the wharf, tree-cutting crews, and road creation. 1956 commissioning photos include Admiral Radford, then Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, inspecting officers at NAS Cubi Point, as well as speeches by RADM Wendell Switzer (Commander, US Naval Forces, Philippines), Ramon Magsaysay (President of the Philippines), CPT Page Knight (Commanding Officers of NAS Cubi Point), and ADM Radford. Two portraits of RADM Wendell Switzer and CPT Page Knight are also included.
