2017.31 Milton Heuston Collection

Leather-bound photo album (well captioned) related to the naval service of Clay Donovan Benton during WWI, 1918-1919. The bulk of the imagery was taken at the Naval Air Station Queenstown (near the village of Aghada), Ireland, but also included other Navy stations and travels on shore leave. Specific imagery consists of base buildings (including hangars); group photos of squadron members; Curtiss H16 flying boats (including crew), aerials of the surrounding area; city scenes of Queenstown; a captured German sub in Queenstown harbor; Clay D. Benton and fellow crewmates on leave (Ireland and England); general base life and activities; troops waiting to load onto Liberty Ships in Brest, France; arriving in New York; and finally back to Great Lakes, IL.
