NHF-005 German Navy Collection

German Navy Collection Approximately 100 photographs and sketches of warships of the German Navy, c. 1939-1944. Includes battleships, cruisers and smaller vessels (destroyers, etc.). This also includes some views of the Walthers “high-speed submarine” and various units of the Germany Navy after the surrender in 1945. Some photos have been assigned NH numbers or removed and placed in the NH series. Many images appear to have been copied from publications. At least one image bears a Crown Copyright stamp.

18 images, German destroyers, torpedo boats, etc. Images include: 2 LEBERECHT MAASZ-class DD’s; 1 MÖWE-class torpedo boat; 8 WOLF-class torpedo boats. Specifically identified ships include: 1 image of LEOPARD; 1 image of LUCHS (Wolf-class, 1934); 1 image of SEEADLER (Möwe Class, 1937); 1 image of MÖEWE (Möwe-class, 1937-1938); 1 image of ILTIS (Wolf-class, c. 1938); 2 images of KONDOR (Möwe-class, 1938).

German Submarines including: 1 image (plus negative) of the former U-570 (renamed HMS GRAPH after its capture by the RAF in August 1941); 6 images of German submarine U-505 at Chicago, Illinois, c. 1960 donated by Captain P.R. SMITH, USN.

 

NHF-005-E

Images taken in Germany, c. 1945. Includes 18 images of the Walthers “HIGH-SPEED SUBMARINE” at Hamburg, Germany in June 1945. Other images show parts of the German cities of ULM; FRANKFORT; the AUTOBAHN. Also 2 images of NARVIK-class destroyers and PRINZ EUGEN, in June 1945.
