John Quincy Adams
In 1824 John Quincy Adams (1767-1848) narrowly defeated Andrew Jackson to become the 6th President of the United States. Four years later, he lost a reelection bid to Jackson. Adams had a long career of public service which included several ambassadorial appointments and terms in the House and Senate.
