Caption: An early 19th century U.S. Navy pistol on display at the National Museum of the U.S. Navy. In 1813, Simon North of Middletown, Conn., made 1,000 pistols for the Navy. Navy inspector Captain Edward Trenchard's "ET" approval stamp is visible on the stock. The .69 caliber pistols were in the armory on board the frigate Brandywine.
