NHHC's Underwater Archeology Branch discovered deck logs from Iowa indicating that their recently acquired Howell Torpedo Number 24 was fired and lost during training in December 1899 off the coast of San Diego. The torpedo was discovered in 2013 by U.S. Navy dolphins off the coast of San Diego. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
