Brazilian Coin, CSS Alabama, #93-230-X

<p>A round bronze Brazilian 40-Reis coin recovered from the CSS Alabama. On the obverse side is a stamped 40 in the center with a ring of garland around it and below the 40 is faded letters “RUS.I. D.C. CON”. This coin was produced during the reign of King Pedro I of Brazil.</p>

The observe side of the coin above, the letters “RUS.I.D.C CON” are legible. “RUS” are the last letters in the word Petrus meaning this coin was produced during the reign of King Pedro 1 of Brazil. Officers and crew collected objects like these coins from the ports Alabama visited for supplies and repairs.
