Vanguard
A satellite launching system developed by the Naval Research Laboratory for the International Geophysical Year of 1957 and 1958.
Mission San Fernando (T-AO-122) (q.v.) was converted to a missile range instrumentation ship in 1964 and 1965 and was renamed Vanguard (T-AGM-19) on 1 September 1965.
