The second Montezuma was purchased at New London, Conn., 29 November 1861 to be sunk as part of the second "stone fleet." Destined for Savannah in January, she was sunk as an obstruction to Southern shipping in Wilmington Narrows, Lazarette Creek, Ga., in April 1862.
