Conasauga (AOG-15)

1943-1945

A river in the state of Georgia.

(AOG-15: length 254'0"; beam 45'0"; draft 13'0"; speed 8.0 knots)

New York Socony, built in 1932 at Sparrows Point, Md., by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corp.; was acquired by the Navy on 23 March 1943; and, renamed Conasauga (AOG-15), was commissioned on 19 April 1943, Lt. Raymond T. Traut, D-M, USNR, in command.

Sailing from New York on 1 May 1943, Conasauga arrived at Oran, Algeria, on 28 May. Attached to Commander, Naval Forces, North African Waters, she carried gasoline to various ports in the Mediterranean until decommissioned and transferred to the government of France under Lend Lease on Christmas Day, 25 December 1944.  She served under the tricolor as Lac Blanc

Returned to U.S. custody on 17 October 1945 at Palermo, Sicily, Conasauga was cannibalized and her equipment salvaged. Her hulk was sold for scrap on 19 December 1945.
