Aberdeen (Id.No. 763)
Soon after the United States entered the Great War [World War I], the Navy inspected most privately owned American ships for possible acquisition. One such vessel, Aberdeen, a steel-hulled steamship which had been built at Seattle, Wash., in 1912, was found to be suitable for naval service and was assigned the identification number (Id.No.) 763. However, no record of her actual acquisition by the Navy has been found.
