Caption: This aircraft flown by Commander John Rogers took off 1 September 1925 in an attempt to fly nonstop from San Francisco, California, to Hawaii. It was forced down by engine failure 559 miles from Hawaii. The crew made sails out of lower wing fabric and sailed the aircraft to the Island. Close-up view of lower wing with fabric removed. Taken at Hawaii after arrival.
