Caption: This insignia, adopted in 1966, is based on the Biddle family crest and incorporates a nautical motif within the circular field. The hooked devices within the shield are known as "biddles" and are used in the family crest. The four stars represent the four USS BIDDLEs, TB-26, DD-151, DDG-5, and DLG-34. The motto is translated: "God is my shield."
