Caption: Stipple engraving by T. Medland after N. Pocock. Published in the "Naval Chronicle," September 1799, by Bunney and Gold, London. This view is taken looking eastward, up the Tagus, to where the Spanish warships captured by Jervis in the Battle of Cape St. Vincent (1797) are lying. The castle of Belim is on the left, still showing some of the effects of a bombardment received from HMS ARTOIS in about 1780. In the foreground is a singular local vessel known as a "bean cod."
