Title: Quadrant of John Paul Jones
Caption: The quadrant alleged to have belonged to Commodore John Paul Jones. At his death it was forwarded with other effects in Paris to his sister in Edinburgh. Later it was given to a grand-nephew of Jones, Simon Graham, who was a sea captain and became a master mariner. In his old age, Captain Graham lived in Kent County, New Brunswick, with his son, Simon Graham, Jr., who inherited the octant. Simon, Jr., who died in 1902, presented it to the late J.S. MacLaren whose son, D.L. MacLaren, presented it to President Roosevelt in 1938.
