Caption: Medical corpsmen and plane handlers removed casualties from the air group commander's TBF, just after it landed on USS SARATOGA (CV-3) after being shot up over Rabaul. The gunner, AOM Kenneth Bratton was wounded in the plane, and Photographer's Mate First Class Paul Barnett was killed while photographing a Japanese "Zero" fighter making a head-on attack on the TBF. Commander Henry H. Caldwell, the pilot, is climbing from his cockpit, after making a one-wheel landing with no flaps, ailerons or radio.
