L01-19.07.01 Ice sensing aircraft

Navy men from Antarctic Development Squadron Six (VXE-6) prepare the ski-equipped LC-130 aircraft for an ice sensing mission. Note the bar-shaped trapeze antenna located on the underside of the wing. All ice sensing missions originated at the sky-way at Williams Field, Antarctica located five miles from McMurdo Station. January 15, 1975.
