Description: Japanese military and civilian envoys board a C-54 transport plane at Ie Shima, Ryukyu Islands, 19 August 1945. They were flown to Manila to receive instructions concerning surrender and occupation arrangements. Officer approaching top of ladder is the delegation head, Lieutenant General Torashiro Kawabe.
