2017.26 Marion Ziegler III Collection

Photo album related to the naval career of Marion Davis Ziegler, Jr. circa  WWII. Ziegler enlisted in the Navy as an Apprentice Seaman on 14 September 1937 and retired on 31 July 1957. The imagery appears to all be from 1937-1945. He received his enlisted pilot’s license and was attached to VR-12, a ferry squadron in Guam during and after WWII. His rate at retirement was ADRC Aviation Machinist’s Mate Chief. Ziegler served aboard USS Langley (CV-1), YO-42, & USS Vega (AK-17). Subject matter of the images include: Crossing the Line Ceremonies; group photos of pals/buddies aboard ship (USS Langley & USS Vega) as well as on leave (Mare Island, CA, San Diego, CA, Hawaii, Manila, Shanghai); activities aboard ship; aircraft (Voight Corsair, PBY-4, & F4B-1); various locations in the Philippines;  USS Permit; USS Augusta; and various locations on the Guam base (including the CPO club – Ziegler was a founding member). The Charter of the CPO Club from VR-12 is also included in the collection. In it includes the bylaws, names of the charter members, and orders.
