This is an excellent collection of photographs organized to show the naval service of the WAVES and nurses circa WWII. Topics of the imagery consists of training, grooming, living quarters, day-to-day activities, uniforms and clothing, recruitment, leisure activities (reading, writing, billiards, dances, ping pong, choir, etc. ), at work (operating communication devices, aircraft training and navigation, typing, nursing duties, in the classroom, etc.), participating in ceremonies, etc. There is an excellent group photo of the first members of the Women’s Reserve of the Navy and Marine Corps gathered in Hawaii to survey the assignment of female personnel overseas, including: COL. Ruth Streeter, LCDR Jean T. Palmer, Maj. Marian B Dryden, and LCDR Joy B. Hancock.
