Description: 163 loose photos and 174 photos in a scrapbook, related to the service of Edward C. Blackburn on board the battleship USS North Dakota (BB-29) 1918-1920. Shown are the ship in drydock, flying kites for anti-aircraft gun target practice, coaling ship, loading powder and shells for 12” guns, field day, inspections, kite balloons, sports including football , baseball, swimmers, boxing, and Thanksgiving contests, F5L seaplanes. Locations shown include sailors on liberty at New York City; Panama; Santiago and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; St. Thomas; Pompeii; Naples; Malta; France; Monaco; Venice; Gibraltar; Spain; Rome; Greece; Constantinople; Barbados; St. Kitts. Other ships shown include USS Constitution, unidentified ships in dazzle camouflage, HMS Emperor of India, USS Sacramento (PG-19), USS Foote (DD-169), USS Winchester (SP-156), USS Sharkey (DD-281), R-27 (SS-104), USS Florida (BB-30). Scrapbook includes short daily log entries from June 1919 – May 1920 detailing activities on board North Dakota. Some images have been assigned NH numbers. USS North Dakota Thanksgiving 1919 program and “US Navy at Panama 1921” booklet transferred to Navy Department Library.
