Collection of 24 photographs circa 1942 originally collected by LCDR Carlyle M. Terry, a Public Information Officer at Norfolk Navy Yard, regarding USS Alabama (BB-60) construction and launching activities. Specific imagery consists of launching of the Alabama at Norfolk on February 16, 1942; christening by Mrs. Lister Hill and sponsor’s party – including Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox; the ship sliding down the ways after christening; dinner and concert events; and various images of ship’s launching arrangements and gear (fore poppet, after poppet, chain drags, cable attachments, starting jacks, etc.).
