Collection Guide:
Images taken in Kodiak consist of personal snapshots (taken by Serra) including groups of friends, fishing with a dog, scenic views of the mountains, large groups of sailors in chow line, and playing baseball. The photographs taken at Okinawa and Saipan are more of a documentary style (taken by Colvin) and include captions on each image. Subject matter includes: LST 736 loaded with machinery en-route to Okinawa; construction and equipment; facilities and buildings; general scenic views; typhoon damage; aerial views; villagers; general camp views; church services; and weapons training. Overall, this collection is an excellent example of work performed by the 79th Naval Construction Battalion between 1943 and 1945.
