2016.31 Brian Rainie Collection

5 black and white photographs taken by the donor’s father, Chief Radioman Robert Edward Rainie, during World War II. Photos were taken on 19 August, 1945, in Manila, Philippine Islands. Shown is the arrival of a Japanese military delegation headed by Rear Admiral Ichiro Yokoyama  and Lieutenant General Torashiro Kawabe at the headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur, in order to formally surrender. Also shown are their swords post-surrender, and street scenes of Manila.
