Title: Mrs. W.A. Nightengale Photo Collection
Description: 2 small albums, containing approximately 200 photographs, donated by Mrs. W.A. Nightengale in 1971. They may relate to the service of William A. Nightingale, who served 1914 through World War II, and whose photographs are also represented elsewhere in the NH collection. Subject of albums is USS Mercury (SP-3012) circa 1918-1919, and USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) in the mid-1920s. Topics include: scenes ashore in France during World War I; scenes on board ships including transporting troops; Panama Canal; coaling station at Cristobal; scenes ashore in the Caribbean, possibly Guantanamo; scenes ashore in New York City; good views of battleships and other ships of the fleet in formation; launching of a Vought UO-1 from Pennsylvania catapult; swim call. Other ships seen include: USS Mississippi (BB-41), USS Mayflower (PY-1), USS Anniston (C-9), USS Jarvis (DD-38), USS Chase (DD-323), USS Constellation, USS Langley (CV-1).
