2017.06 Donald Leeger Collection

Approximately 385 black and white photos from the U.S. Navy service of donor’s father, PhoM2C Wilbur H. “Bud” Leeger, 1943-1944, during World War II in the South Pacific. Locations include Green Island and Guadalcanal. Good views of photography dark room with print washing machine and other chemicals and equipment used for developing film. Many images of South Pacific natives. USO show with unidentified celebrities.Unidentified sailors and people, including sailors writing letters home. Masses in open air theaters attended by uniformed personnel and natives. Landscape and tourism photos at unidentified locations. Broken pieces of a shipwreck washed ashore. Large column of smoke from an offshore incident. Damaged buildings (possibly from aerial attack) in a jungle setting. Aircraft including B-29, PBY Catalina, F4U Corsair (wrecked), wrecked Japanese G4M “Betty” bomber, C-54 Skymaster.
