Title: Frederick Hunt Photo Collection
Description: Collection of 5 photographs related to Naval Air Station Belem, Brazil circa 1943-1944. Specific imagery shows visits to the base by Secretary and Undersecretary of the Navy, Frank Knox and Artemus Gates; as well as other dignitaries, including Eleanor Roosevelt. The base commander, LCDR Arthur David Condon is also included in photographs. A visiting USO troupe with Illona Massey is also amongst the collection. During WWII, the US Navy liaison office at Belem, Brazil was a way station on the air route to Africa as well as for ships entering and leaving the Amazon where there was much experimentation in Brazilian rubber.
