2018.04 Michael Hoblit Collection

Collection of 36 photos related to the US Navy career of John Robert Hoblit, including imagery associated with D-Day. The photographs are noted to have been taken on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) and include USS Augusta (CA-31) at sea off the coast of France amongst several unidentified ships; USS LCI(L)-540; LCI(L)-542 (including shore landing); troop landings off invasion beaches; as well as various unidentified landing craft with barrage balloons overhead. The remaining images generally consists of photos related to Hoblit and his fellow sailors aboard ship and on shore (likely at boot camp), 1943-1944. Additional materials donated to NHHC (library and museum) suggest Hoblit served aboard LCI(L)-542. It is unknown if he took the D-Day photographs himself.
