Description: The collection consists of several thousand film negatives related to USS Guam's service during the 1980s and 1990s. Notable events shown include: recovery of materials from the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster; evacuation of Liberian refugees in May 1986 & the mission's leader Colonel Wayne Forbush; action at the Kipini Village in Kenya during 1994; celebrity visits to the ship including Bob Hope, Loretta Lynn, and the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders; Helicopter Operations; special operations drills; Operation Desert Storm; Somalia; photographs of Commanding officers.
