Collection Guide:
The photographs provide extensive coverage of subjects related to preparation of the North Sea mine barrage with images consisting views of Navy Yard Foreign Base 18 (including various base buildings) in Inverness, Scotland, loading of mines; assembly sheds, assembly bay, mine assembly, stores of mine sinkers awaiting assembly, loading onto railroad cars, camouflaged mine sheds, and barges in preparation for transportation. Multiple views of the officers and crew of USS Quinnebaug as well as other mine laying ships during the North Sea mine barrage are also included. The collection also includes several photographs of various grand buildings, presumably in the Inverness area, as well as an image of Mrs. Eugene Grow in her wedding gown (1912).
