Title: USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73) Photo Collection
Description: Collection of 111 photographs (several are duplicates) related to USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73) including commissioning events (1943); the ship docked at an unknown location 9 months prior to its sinking; a TBM on a catapult showing a bomb that was dropped on Garapan, Siapan; 1944 aerial attacks off Saipan; views of aircraft of the ship’s deck; ship’s officers, including Captain Hugh H. Goodwin and XO Richard Ballinger; landings of Marines on Saipan; and members of VC-10 ((crew and pilots - several images include identifications on the back of the photo). The photographs appear to be from the collection of crewmember Anthony Potochniak, a member of the USS Gambier Bay and VC 10 Association (as indicated by stamps on the reverse of some of the images).
