11 black and white photographs showing the repatriation of the dead from USS Maine, last visitors to the wreck while in its cofferdam, and the sinking of the wreck off the coast of Cuba on 16 March 1912. Views taken from USS Osceola (AT-47), commanded by Lieutenant Peter Emery, the ship that towed Maine to its final resting place. Also seen are USS North Carolina (CA-12) and USS Birmingham (CL-2). Collection was donated by Emery’s wife in 1936 to the Naval Historical Foundation, and later donated to the Naval History and Heritage Command. Photos taken by Harrison, Key West.
